Aug 1, 2023 · Here’s what I did on my Kalalau Trail backpacking trip: Day 1: Hike from the trailhead to Kalalau Beach at the end of the trail; camp overnight at Kalalau Beach. Day 2: Rest and enjoy the wilderness; camp overnight at Kalalau Beach. Day 3: Hike out. Number one on our list is the Kalalau Trail, or what some refer to as the "Hanakapiai Trail." This trail includes the first two miles (one way) of the 11-mile Kalalau trail that stretches along the NaPali coastline, starting at Kee Beach at the end of the road on North Kauai. It is popular with visitors who want a very scenic half-day hike. The only hikeable trail (to my knowledge) on the Na Pali Coast is the 11 mile Kalalau trail. Staying overnight or traveling further than roughly 6 miles (Hanakoa Valley) requires a permit which are pretty much guaranteed to be all booked for Thanksgiving weekend.
